This Snow Leopard Photography Journey is built around patience, silence, and embracing the beauty of the Gobi-Altai mountains.
As wildlife habitats around the world continue to shrink due to urban expansion, truly authentic wildlife photography has become increasingly rare. Mongolia remains one of the last places where vast, untouched landscapes still allow animals to move freely and where real wildlife photography is still possible.
Centered on the search for the elusive snow leopard, this experience is designed for photographers who understand that meaningful wildlife work comes with uncertainty and challenge.
Based near a nomadic herder family’s winter camp, days begin long before sunrise and unfold slowly across high ridgelines and rugged terrain.
The focus is not on chasing sightings, but on learning to read the land, understand movement, and work patiently within the natural rhythm of the mountains.
This is not an easy journey, nor is it a guaranteed one. It is a true field experience, both physically and mentally demanding, and a rare opportunity to practice wildlife photography in one of the last remaining places where nature still sets the rules.

This photography tour is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to track, observe, and photograph snow leopards in their natural habitat.
During this tour you will travel down to the Gobi-Altai region, where a large population of snow leopards roam the surrounding mountains and valleys. Here, snow leopards are known to travel between arid mountains and the steppe to hunt.
We do not bait or use unethical practices that will alter the behaviors of the local snow leopard population during this experience.
Using your expert-guide’s knowledge, along with the help of local trackers and wildlife specialists, your days are filled with the thrill of following these elusive ghost cats. The theme of this adventure is respect. Respect for this endangered species, the environment they live in, and the locals who live cohesively alongside them.
This tour will teach you about snow leopard’s hunting and migration habits, mating rituals, family bonds, and more.
You will also have a chance to work on your wildlife photography skills alongside your award-winning expert guide. Come prepared to capture shots you could never imagine having the opportunity to take in your lifetime. This is truly a surreal experience on every level.
Participating in this tour requires a medium to high level of physicality. You should be comfortable moving through rocky, mountainous terrain at elevation and spending long days in the field exposed to the elements.

In the evening, gather for a welcome dinner with your guide to discuss the journey ahead, daily routines, safety considerations, and what to expect from this snow leopard tracking experience.
After breakfast, begin the main driving day toward the Gobi-Altai mountain region. As you leave the city behind, the landscape gradually becomes more remote and rugged.
Arrive in the afternoon and set up camp near a nomadic herder family’s winter camp. This will be your base for the coming days. Settle in, prepare gear, and rest early in anticipation of early starts.
