Have an evening ceremony with a powerful Shaman. Ask questions and get answers. One of the most interesting experiences to have in Mongolia.
Finding a Shaman in Ulaanbaatar isn’t always the easiest thing to do. Especially if you’ve never been here. Knowing who is the real deal versus who isn’t, can be confusing when you don’t have a baseline for how Shamanism in Mongolia works.
Personally, I visit Shamans regularly. I’ve come to know some of them well, and I ask them questions about everything. My personal life, my work, my health, what I should do in certain situations, everything! And I take their guidance seriously.
Shamanism isn’t something I take lightly. Seeing a Shaman isn’t for everyone, or for every situation. Some things are also better left unknown, and that’s also something I respect.
But, for those who respect the culture and traditions around it, it can be an eye opening and moving experience. An important thing to remember is that you get out of it what you put in.
If you are reserved when you ask your question, or you aren’t being 100% truthful, you won’t get as much out of it as you should. Ask your questions with an open heart and open mind for the best experience possible.

There are a few things to know before the ceremony with the Shaman.
First, once the doors to the Shaman’s ger close, you aren’t allowed to leave.
The Shaman also has a translator, in this case his mother, to translate the spirit’s old tongue Mongolian to modern Mongolian language.
Ceremonies can take hours depending on the number of people and questions asked. Please be respectful, and quiet, while anyone is meeting with the Shaman. Your guide will brief you on things you can and can’t do during the ceremony before it begins.
Photos and using your cell phone during the ceremony aren’t allowed. This isn’t a tourist experience or photo opportunity. This is a sacred experience, and it should be treated as such. If you would like to arrange photos, videos, or recorded interviews with and of a Mongolian Shaman, please contact us separately.
