Getting to Khaggin Khar Lake and Burkhan Khaldun Mountain is almost impossible during the summer months. It’s during this time the roads in these provinces turn into marshland.
That means that you can only reach Khaggin Khar Lake and Burkhan Khaldun Mountain by helicopter or horseback. Because of this, only a few people get to experience this sacred area every year.
While traditional customs prohibit women from climbing the mountain, there are plenty of other ways for all to enjoy this sacred and magnificent place.

This trip departs from Buyant-Ukhaa airport at 9 am. The helicopter ride will take about one hour, arriving at Khagiin Khar Lake at 10 am.
When you arrive at Khagiin Khar Lake, you’ll be greeted with light snacks and freshly brewed coffee. We’ll take this time to settle into camp before setting out to explore this untouched protected area.
Lunch will be served by our professionally trained chef at 1 pm. After lunch, guests are free to hike through the stunning mountains at leisure, swim in the lake, kayak, fish, or simply relax and enjoy the peaceful natural wonder that is Khagiin Khar Lake. You might even spot a deer or two, coming down from the mountains to drink water from the lake.
Enjoy a picture-perfect sunset dinner at 6:30 pm and spend the rest of the evening around a campfire as your guide shares stories about the history of the land.
The next morning you can choose to sleep in or go for a sunrise hike up the mountain. Taking in the fresh, clean air, how you choose to spend your early morning is up to you.
Our chef will begin to prepare coffee and breakfast, which will be served at 9 am.
Following breakfast, it’s time to channel your inner Khaan – no trip to Mongolia is complete without riding a horse like a Mongolian warrior.
Once you’ve mounted your horse, you’ll spend the rest of the morning and early afternoon on a horseback adventure exploring Burkhan Khaldun and the surrounding mountains.
Returning to camp, lunch will be waiting.
After spending almost 30 hours near Khagiin Khar Lake, you’ll depart back to Ulaanbaatar around 3 pm, putting you back in the city just in time to shower before heading out for dinner.
